Past and Present

July 27th, 2005

David Chesworth, an early pioneer of ambient eletronic music, is rereleasing “50 Synthesizer Greats” twenty years after its initial pressing. The album, born from the boredom of a young twenty something musician, is an original oldschool hit.

David gave an interview to SMH.com.au and revealed his take on how things are done, the future of music, and dispences a bit of advice to younger musicians.

The late John Peel, recognised by many as the most influential radio dj, will be inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame.

DJ and Producer Internet Roundup

Dubtribe Sound System
Dubtribe Sound System ( DSS ) are on their final tour. A quick read on their blog reveals that they have a child now and are refocusing their resources. DSS have a long time presence in house music circles; they won’t be gone from the scene entirely since they will be working in the studio.

DJ Mixers
Tired of of the ivory tower of the DJ booth Jude Kelly, a Canadian DJ, took matters into his own hands. He used technology to allow him to dj anywhere in the club. Using a combination of virtual turntables and wifi now he is free to do as he likes. Read about Jude Law the techno DJ
Things Radio DJ’s shouldn’t do
A radio DJ started calling local business posing as an employee of the electric company instructed businesses to shut down all electric systems in their offices. The police and the victim busineses were not amused. Stupid DJ story

DJ’s have Questions.

July 19th, 2005

We have some answers to your questions. Ok OK.. we don’t but we know where to find some answers to your questions.

  • I want to be a DJ how do I start ?

    Well then go here: http://www.recess.co.uk/start.html

Wanting to be a dj and not knowing where to begin is a common problem. DJ Recess of the UK has put together a definitive guide for the beginner DJ. He covered all the basics of DJing including how to mix, how to buy your first setup, and a few personal notes on what being a DJ is about. This site is definitely worth the trip.

  • My records are dirty what do I do ?

Lets face it records get dirty. So what are you going to do to get all the crud off ? Well you could go to the extreme of buying a vacuum cleaner [ http://www.smartdev.com/loricraft.html ] for you vinyl. [Yes we were surprised too] but that seems a bit extreme. How about checking this article out on how to clean records [ http://www.ehow.com/how_1625_clean-vinyl-record.html ]. Its a bit more tame and has quite a bit of good advice.

  • I keep hearing about these DVD turntables.. are they good for anything ?

Ask Paul D Miller, better known as “DJ Spooky, that subliminal kid”, [ http://www.djspooky.com/articles/rebirth.html ] about his “Rebirth of a Nation” project. While we don’t know if he used DVD tables for this project he is on the leading edge of using remixed video as a means of expression in a freeflow way.

Thats all for today ! Keep the questions coming.

Internet Round Up

July 17th, 2005

We went looking for the most interesting thing we could find about ProAudio. This is what we found.

  • DJ Lessons: The blog “You Got Confusion” spotted a bungled dj advertisment. The poor busty blonde in the photo was offered the following advice.

    1. Only use your turntable for vinyl. CDs will be scratched by the needle and you won’t here the music.

We don’t want to ruin it. Make sure you go to the site for further tips.

  • MP3 Turntable Software: This interesting gem is a free, basic, mp3 virtual turntable. No bloat no pretense just an mp3 mixer. Very cool find if you can’t afford final scratch or just want to do a quick mix on your computer for a compilation.
